The Soundtrack of August
This August, I thought I would share the songs I have been listening to over
the past month. Music has always been a companion, whether I am working,
cooking, or standing by the window watching the world move while my thoughts
wander elsewhere. The mellifluous pull of a beautiful song has a way of
reaching places that ordinary conversation never can. Some lyrics seem to know
the heart, the problems within the soul.
I intentionally left out Taylor Swift’s I Knew It, I Knew You. I knew y’all would say so...😂
Swipe through, and you will also find a few things that made this season sweeter. I made mashed potatoes, coconut cookies with milk, and a pot of jollof that my house people loved so much. Watching everyone return for another serving is a pleasure I never take for granted. Ephemeral as it may be, it’s also grace. Cooking, placing food before the people I love, and seeing them reach for seconds has become one of the most revered parts of home for me.
Oh, my writing residency too.
Speaking of confessions, I have a habit. I often apply for jobs that I already suspect I will not get. Someone has to open the application, read my writing, view my profile, and spend time looking through my portfolio. Even if I am not the person they choose, there is always the possibility that something I wrote catches their attention. Perhaps another opportunity will appear months later, and my name will return to them. Hope has its own logic, and I have learned not to let disappointment obfuscate the simple act of putting my work into the world. 😉

So yall ate the food without me, huh?
ReplyDeleteI admire how strategic you have become now and it is so good boy. Music these days speak a lot. The African folks in the afropop are giving such good vibes that are good. It is so soothing and wonderful.
