End of the Month And Hello, Again?

I
have not been to church in three weeks because I have been busy grading and recording level 400 undergraduate scripts.

I was supposed to travel out of the country about a month ago but I could not go because of the undergraduate grades. They are even reopening this week. Also, for those who do not know, I am a journalist now. I have been off for a while and I just never wanted to share anything. Anyway, I have had a few of my works published. I miss bothering y’all with my blogs. I know most of you will be texting me because I do not share the blog posts the way I used to. This is because I genuinely needed to stop flooding your timelines.

I have been turning down jobs.

Yes, for the past months, especially this month, I said no. A whole me who used to search for jobs like crazy! I had to, because this journalism path does not pay much right now, but it is building my portfolio and I love that it is remote until stated otherwise. I went to the TGMAs!!!!! This does not mean that I will turn down a job that pays well, one that excites me, or a company I have been yearning to work with. If it is in person and has all the vibes I want, I will do it. Most of the ones I turned down had to do with scheduling. I do not want to be swamped with anything I cannot fully commit to. I want my time to be valuable. I built my portfolio on Canva and it got a lot of people talking and reaching out. But here is the thing, I made a grammar mistake on the portfolio and I am certain that is why I did not get some of the jobs I wanted most. How do you apply for a copywriter position at a big Nigerian agency and add an “s” where it does not belong? Or apply to another media company in Nigeria and make a grammar mistake when your CV says you have a master’s degree in English Literature 😭. The reality!

I was prepared to move to Nigeria, leave the school thing behind, especially my Level 400s, and find my feet in a big tech company or advertising agency. My grandmother said Nigeria is warring and scary right now and she does not want me there. She is actually making her way to me instead, and this is the story now.

I got three essays published and one went viral on Twitter. The DMs came flooding in. The recent one is currently gaining traction little by little. I had someone from Uganda and someone from Nigeria reach out about it. Anyway, how have your lives been? Happy new month! And if you are wondering, I have travelled to three countries already this year. All African countries though! I might add links to the pieces I posted.

Who wants to go to Togo with me? Let us plan now! Also, we are all susceptible to burnout, and honestly that is part of why we step back in.
